Olympics inspire students across the Forest

WORLD record breaking paralympic champion, Richard Whitehead, and Commonwealth medallist and Olympic hopeful, Georgina Geikie, brought the Beijing Paralympic torch to Whitecross School.
They were appearing as part of the school’s first ever sports achievements awards.
Awards went to a range of students, among them:
Head of department award, leadership award and joint dance performer of the year: Kelly Howells
Outstanding sportswoman of the year: Brodie Knox
Outstanding sportsman of the year: Lee Turley
Rugby player of the season: Matthew Allcock
Cricket player of the season: Aubrey Stubbs
Boy’s football player of the season: James Hawkins
Girl’s football player of the season: Chloe James

HEYWOOD...

STUDENTS at Heywood Community School in Cinderford had the chance to take part in a wide variety of sports, from archery to fencing, as part of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.
The sport week was created by the Youth Sport Trust and is aimed at using the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire more young people to take part in and understand the value of sport.
Sports on offer to Heywood students ranged from fencing, archery and table tennis to volleyball and mountain biking.
